Providing counseling services to all survivors of assault

A program of Cumberland River Behavioral Health, Cumberland River Victims Services provides crisis intervention and counseling to survivors of sexual assault in Southeast Kentucky. With Victims of Crime Act funding, we are also able to provide counseling and outreach services to victims of other crimes.

Regional Crisis Center

What does Cumberland River Victims Services offer?

We are the regional rape crisis center serving the counties of Bell, Clay, Knox, Harlan, Jackson, Laurel, Rockcastle, and Whitley in Southeastern Kentucky. We provide counseling services to all survivors of sexual assault and their families. We are also available to provide emotional support to survivors of sexual assault if they chose to have a medical exam or choose to report to law enforcement.

We provide free educational programs to school groups, community groups and professional groups. We cover topics, such as child abuse prevention, internet safety, bullying/cyberbullying, sexual harassment and domestic violence. Contact us to determine if we can tailor a program to fit your needs.

All services are free

Cumberland River Victims Services

We are available for you if you are in crisis. We operate a twenty-four hour per day, seven days per week crisis line available by calling (800) 656-HOPE (4673).

Medical Advocacy

After a sexual assault, survivors have the right to seek medical treatment and/or a Sexual Assault Forensic Exam. Survivors have the right to decide if they would like to report the sexual assault to law enforcement except in situations of mandatory reporting.

Therapy

Many victims of sexual assault or abuse find that they can benefit from longer therapy. We offer individual therapy, couples therapy, and family therapy. Many times, friends and family members can also benefit from therapy.

Legal Advocacy

Advocates are available to provide emotional support and information throughout the investigation and legal proceedings if a survivor chooses to report to law enforcement or in situations of mandated reporting in which there is an investigation and court proceedings.

It's My Space

It is a research-based curriculum that has been evaluated for effectiveness in New York and was found to effectively reduce sexual harassment, physical and sexual dating violence, and peer violence. This curriculum has been adapted by Kentucky for application in largely rural middle school populations.

Education

If your class or group has a need that is not covered in the list, please feel free to reach out to us to discuss what we can provide. If you have questions or need to schedule a program, please call our administrative office at (606) 528-5286.

Green Dot

Through group and individual activities, team competitions, workbook activities, group discussions, and game playing, students are equipped to recognize high-risk situations, taught to identify realistic actions they could take and empowered with behaviors they can do to set non-violent norms inside their school.
